Rigging boats in Silverton No other river in Colorado comes close to the scenery, remoteness and challenges of the Upper Animas River. We offer trips for intermediate to expert rafters and kayakers. Be careful, our fully stocked riverside camp and hiking options in this roadless wilderness might just lure you to opt for the two or three day trip! Take a look at our Lower Animas trips for some less intense rafting and kayaking options. SIX FABULOUS OPTIONS MIDDLE UPPER ADVENTURE - FULL DAYGreat adventure trip for active people who want a taste of the Upper Animas. One class V and lots of class III and IV rapids with stunning scenery. Combined with a round-trip historic Durango Train ride.  TOP UPPER EXTREME - FULL DAYWe take you from Silverton, Colorado though two class V rapids and miles of class IV whitewater in a steep, inaccessible canyon. Catch the train in Needleton at the end of the day. UPPER ANIMAS RAFTING MARATHONWe take you down almost the entire Upper Animas in one day. Over 25 miles of class III, IV and V whitewater. For the addicted only!  TWO DAY WILDERNESS OVERNIGHTThis is the option we recommend to see all of the Upper Animas from Silverton to Tacoma. The highlight for some is spending the night in the wilderness at our fully stocked riverside camp.  THREE DAY WILDERNESS RAFTING AND HIKINGIt doesn't get any better than this. Class V rafting, classic hiking and climbing in the Weminuche Wilderness, and another day of rafting. Bring your hiking shoes. If you move quickly you could summit a 14,000 ft peak in Chicago basin.  ULTIMATE CHALLENGE - ROCKWOOD BOX GORGEThis will rock your boat and your world. If the flow is right and the crew is strong, we hike or train to beautiful Cascade Creek and warm up with a few class III and IV rapids before taking on the no-kidding class V rapids in the Rockwood Box Canyon. Finish it all off by carrying the rafts up a steep hill for almost a mile. Yay! SEASONThe Animas River is a free-flowing river which depends on snowpack. The Upper Animas starts running in May and is usually good through July. At lower August flows we cannot run all the way from Silverton but will start trips in Needleton.
